Welcome to the Neurological Patient Database (NPD) website!
Our researchers are committed to advancing brain research in Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas.
The Neurological Patient Database (NPD) is located at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. This project received initial funding from the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. The purpose for building the Neurological Patient Database is to enhance the recruitment of patients into current and upcoming research studies at the University of Waterloo.
The database facilitates ongoing research exploring the neural bases of behavior, which will eventually be used to refine methods of rehabilitation, and possibly aid in discovering new and innovative rehabilitation techniques. Patients will know that they are helping out in supporting ongoing research at the University of Waterloo. Patients are informed that we are not offering additional care, nor can we offer a second opinion on any prior diagnosis given by medical professionals, and their choice to join the database will be kept confidential of all caregivers and will not affect any therapies or care given to them at the hospital. This database is for the purpose of research alone, and their signing up will be a great donation to the science of stroke and brain injuries.
This project has full ethics clearance from the University of Waterloo Office of Research Ethics and the Tri Hospital Research Ethics Board.
